The City

Kadri Manjunatha Temple : Dating back to about 1068 A.D, Kadri Manjunatha Temple is among the ancient remarkable spots in Mangalore. It is a square temple built with nine water tanks and is located at the bottom of the highest hill at Kadri. A mutt (group) called 'Jogimutt' was built on the top of this hill by King Kundavarma Bupendra. The mysticism associated with this temple captivates a number of tourists every year. Considered as the best bronze statue in India, the Lokeshwara bronze statue is placed in Kadri Manjunatha Temple. The place is also popular for the belief which stresses the presence of stone cave of pandavas on the top of the hill.

Major Attractions of the city

Sultan Battery : A structure in Boloor, about 6 Kms away from Mangalore was built in black stones by Tipu Sultan in order to check warships from entering Gurpur River. Although the fort stands deserted today, its edifice is outstandingly exquisite. The residual fraction of the fort is called as Tipu's Well.

St. Aloysius Church : Situated a kilometer away from the Nehru Maidan Bus stand in Mangalore, this church was constructed in 1899-1900. The paintings of the artists Antony Moshaini of Italy, make their gracious presence on the walls of this church and literally cover each inch of the inner walls. Often compared with the Sistine chapel in Rome, St. Aloysius College Chapel is a remarkable work of art. It is positioned on lighthouse hill in Mangalore.

Shri Sharavu Mahaganapathi Temple : Famous as a pilgrim center, Mangalore is blessed with many revered and famous temples like Sharavu, Kadri, Mangaladevi, Kudroli etc. Out of these, a popular, impressive and sanctimonious center of celebrated history, is the Sri Mahaganapathi Kshetra.

Maravanthe : 110 kms north of Mangalore, Maravanthe has a lovely beach and is known for its striking natural scenery.

Beach of Malpe/ Malpe Beach : It is an immaculate beach situated 66 kms north of Mangalore. This beach is a perfect tourist spot as it is surrounded by bounties of nature and is vitalized by the peaceful atmosphere it offers. If you want more, take a boat to the St. Mary's Island, which is another enjoyable leisure spot for tourists.

Kollur : 140 kms north of Mangalore Kollur is famous for the Mookambika Temple, which attracts thousands of devotees every year.

Dharmasthala : 75 kms east of Mangalore, this is an exemplary place exhibiting its communal accord which is also famous for its Manjunatha Temple. A warm welcome is extended to one and all that arrive here and are greeted with free meal.

How to reach

Air : 20 km away from the city center, the Bajpe airport at Mangalore serves as the commuting medium to various cities. For reaching this airport, road route and transportation is easily available.

Rail : The Mangalore railway station is connected to Mumbai and Bangalore. It is on the southern fringe of the city center; however, some of the trains stop at the Kankanadi station situated 5 km east of the Mangalore main city.

Road : A network of roads to the neighboring areas makes Mangalore a well-connected place for the convenience of tourists.
