Mount Abu
Location
The only hill station present in Rajasthan, mount Abu is situated at a height of 1220 meters. It is a retreat from the otherwise hot weathered deserts of Rajasthan and is therefore called ‘an oasis in the desert’. It is the heist peak of Aravalli range of mountains and is located in the Sirohi District.

Famous for : Mount Abu is mainly famous for the temples such as ‘Dilwara’ and many others for their magnificent architecture.

Climate of Mount Abu

Mount Abu has a temperate climate where summer temperatures can go as high as 33/34C. Minimum summer temperatures remain at a pleasant 23C. The place is surrounded with plush greenery wrapping the whole hill area with plenty of trees and shrubs that helps in making the weather cool and breezy. During winters the maximum temperature may touch 28C with minimum temperatures going down to 11C. The monsoon is nice pouring heavy rains. Visit is best advised in the month of February as the weather is pleasant; in June because the sun is still pleasing or from September to December in winter season.

The city

Located in the state of Rajasthan, Mount Abu is the only hill station in the deserted type land. The hill station is surrounded with a fine lake and woodland. According to a myth the name of this hill station is obtained from Arbuda, a serpent who had rushed to rescue Lord Shiva’s bull called Nandi.

There are various fascinating treks and picnic spots including romantic and regal retreats of the antique heritage of Rajputs. The picturesque landscapes of Mount Abu comprises of massive rocks in bizarre shapes, an assortment of trees and flowering shrubs, exquisite lake and the chill climate together making it differ from the other cities of Rajasthan.

Tourist Attractions in Mount Abu

Mount Abu consists of five marvelous Jain temples constructed amid of 11th to 13th century A.D, made of marble and with multifaceted carvings. These temples are unique in itself in whole of Rajasthan and are dedicated to ‘Tirthankaras’. The very first and the oldest temple was created in 1031 A.D by a merchant of Gujarat, giving the temple a architectural grandeur.

Gaumukh Temple : This small temple is dedicated to Lord Ram and is centered on a spring gushing from the mouth of a marble cow. According to the Hindu parable the world is formed by a cow licking salt one can witness the famous 'Agnikund' fire rituals that is at a distance of 4 kms from the Hill station.

Govt. Museum : This museum is made to preserve the archaeological assets of the city. It was established in year 1962; located inside the property of Raj Bhawan.

Nakki Talav : It is one of the main holiday centers situated in the heart of Mount Abu. The stunning blue lake is said to have been emerged from earth by the gods, using their fingernails called 'nakh' means nail. Thus, with this belief the name of the place is derived. The boats for rowing are available on hire from the pier by Gandhi Park. The famous Raghunath temple built in 14th century is situated near to this place.

Other places of interest

Adhar Devi Temple (2Km.) : The temple is carved out of a huge rock making it more striking. It is dedicated to the serpent goddess, Arbuda; being a marvel, Arbuda is the patron of Mount Abu. He has shaped the mountain in order to save the sacred cow of god from drowning in a gulf. Riding on a solid gold tiger, the black-painted marble idol is assumed to be approx. 5,000 years aged. The access is open and free during afternoons.

Guru Shikhar (15Km.) : Giving a scenic view of the town that is surrounded with mountains; it is said to be the uppermost peak of Mount Abu. The height records to be 1722 mts above from the sea level. The place also has two small temples to visit, of Dattatreya and Lord Shiva

Trevors Tank (5Km.) : Trevors Tank is a refuge to various birds such as pigeons, peacocks and partridges. A British engineer created it and the place is named after him. For bird lovers it is a true enchantment; as it consists of thickly wooded hills.

How to reach

By Air : The distance from Maharana Pratap Udaipur airport to Mount Abu is approximately 207 kms; it is convenient to travel in a cab or bus to the town from the airport.

By Rail : The trains are constantly traveling to the station of Abu Road; that is approximately 29 kms from the town. The station links Jaipur, Delhi, Mumbai, and Ahmadabad and Ajmer route. To Mount Abu one can easily hire a bus or jeep from Abu road.

By Road : Mount Abu is as well linked with all the foremost cities in northern and western India. The roads are well developed making the travel safer and less time consuming. The distance to Mount Abu from various other cities is as follows:
