The climatic conditions are consistently pleasant in Nanital. In summers, mercury hardly crosses 26° C. During winters, temperature ranges from 2° C to 15° Celsius. The average annual rainfall is 180 centimeters. The freezing atmosphere requires proper woolen attire.
The months of April, May, June, July and September are the best months for visiting Nainital.
The City
Holding its presence in Uttaranchal state of India, Nainital is surrounded by huge snow laden mountains. Attractions in the City
Naina Peak : From this peak, which is 6 kms from the main town, a marvelous view of Nanital can be enjoyed. It is an indispensible part of travel itinerary while a trip to Nainital. The tourists from all over the world come here to see the stunning beauty of snowy peaks and perform some trekking activities here.
Dorothy Seat : It also is a peak top famous for enjoying a bird’s view of this beautiful hill station. It is known as
Dorothy Seat as her husband has made a memorial for her in this place. Also known as -
‘Tiffin Top’, this place is also popular among the trekkers.
Land's End : It is a place where the tourists get an illusion of coming to the end of the land. That is why this place is known as the Land’s End. However, the need not put much efforts for reaching this point as this point is easily accessible. The point offers a stunning view of the adjoining hills, valleys and Khurpatal lake.
St. John-In-The Wilderness : This is a church among the earliest constructed in Nainital during the colonial period. It is famous for its architectural mastery, which is evident in graceful interiors, tainted glass windows and other such features. This church was opened for public in 1848.
Raj Bhawan : This building is constructed based on the design of Buckingham Palace of Great Britain. It is place worth visiting for witnessing the architectural grandeur. The colonial architecture is evident in the features such as tranquil atmosphere, lush green lawns, use of grey stone, and presence of some old Deodar trees in the porch. It dates back to the year 1900.
Kilbury : This is a forest rest house, mainly popular for spotting a variety of various species of birds. The tourists stay here over the night for a calm and peaceful retreat. The place is situated just 11 kms from the main town.
Other Places to Visit
Chhatri Cenotaph in Ramgarh : It is a scenic town mainly famous for its apple orchards, situated 25 kms from Nainital. Situated on a considerable elevation, Ramgarh offers a picturesque view of Himalayan Ranges. Other places of interest in this place are - noted Hindi writer Mahadevi Verma’s house and Aurobindo Ashram.
Mukteshwar : Situated 52 kms away from Nainital, Muktashwar is another beautiful hill station. A profound ravine on one side and the beautiful town of Almora on the other, surround it. The Indian Veterinary Research Institute is situated here. Another quite famous place is 'Chauli Ki Jali' which is a sacred place devoted to Lord Shiva. It is famous for the blessing of Lord Shiva through which many childless couples are blessed with children. Even today, a number of believers approach that place to pray for child.
